Sossusvlei/Swakopmund Adventures

Day One Windhoek – Sesriem (L.D.) (400km) camping

Away by 09h00 we directly go south to the beautiful passes of Namibia. The land scope suddenly changes into the mountain desert. We stop at Solitaire for lunch, again the scenery changes as we make our way to Sesriem, and cross some open grass.

We will cross some open grass savannah and farmlands before the terrain begins to give way to the immense red sand dunes desert of the Namib. On our way we will have a picknic lunch.

We aim to arrive at Sesriem during the late afternoon and we have time to drive out to one of the nearby dunes to watch the colours on distant mountains to the east, glow and change.

Your guide will prepare dinner on an open campfire.

Day Two Sesriem – Sossusvlei – Sesriem (150km) (BLD) (Camping)

A pre-dawn start to see the sunrise in the dunes. We drive a further 60km into the desert and have our breakfast as the colours grow across the landscape.

To reach Sossusvlei itself we walk for the last 5km through the dunes. The walk is like nothing else in the cool of the morning, with soft sunlight just beginning to play over the dunes creating a sharp light and shadow contrast across the whole desert. Ancient mineral pans, stunted camel horn trees and the chance of seeing a Gemsbok or maybe an Ostrich TO make the photo opportunities perfect. Back at the camp side for lunch and an afternoon to the Sesriem Canyon 4.5km. Again your guide will prepare dinner on an open campfire.

Day Three Sesriem – Swakopmund (BL) (370km)

We bid farewell to the dunes we drive North of Sesriem towards Swakopmund. We will pass both the Kuiseb and the Gaub passes, driving both times to the river beds at the bottom of the Canyons and claimbing the long steep road to the spectacular panoramas, the mountains give us. We will also pass the Tropic of Capricorn (Wendekreis des steinbocks) Making a short stop in Walvisbay town, there is a large Marine Lagoon, which are home to a vast array of marine bird-life, in particular flamingos.

Tonight we take the chance to sample one of the excellent restaurants. The seafood in Swakopmund is superb. Your guide will offer to organise a group meal in a local restaurant for this evening. Participation is recommended but by no means required.

Please note: Dinner this evening is not included in the price of the safari and will be for the client’s own account.

Day Four Swakopmund – Windhoek (350km) (BL)

The drive back to Windhoek today will take about 4 and a half hours. We will depart after spending the morning relaxing in Swakopmund, giving us time to spend at the beach along the Atlantic Ocean and an open-air curio market as well as at the Museum and the Namibian National Marine Aquarium.

Alternatively, there are various optional activities that can be arranged. These includes aeroplane and micro light flights over the desert, fishing trips, quad bikes, sand boarding, skydiving and many other activities are available.

Your guide will discuss all the possible options with you.
